Plan Bee to save Elephants
We all must be scared of Bees and in life, we must have experienced the Bee Sting. I have many personal accounts with the bees, but today I will talk about Plan Bee which has been taken by the Government of India.
Just like humans, one of the largest mammal ELEPHANT is also scared of bees. Yes, that is correct.
When an elephant hears the buzzing sound of bees, they just run.
Now, this fear of Elephants is used by the Indian railway to save the lives of Elephants.
Plan Bee
- In November 2017, the Indian Railways launched the initiative, 'Plan Bee' to prevent trains from hitting elephants crossing tracks.
- Under the Plan Bee, a device, which costs around Rs 2,000 is installed at the level crossings near railway station.
- First device is installed near Guwahati Railway station.
- When a train comes, this device produces a ‘buzzing’ sound of swarming bees, considered as a natural enemy of elephants.
- The sound is audible to elephants 600 meters away and thus helps them in keeping away from the tracks.
